Hosted Buyer Program
Tips for Applying
Just like applying for a job or going on a date, there are many great candidates for DMAI's Hosted Buyer Program, but only a limited number of opportunities. Therefore, while we encourage all interested meeting professionals to apply, preference is typically given to those applicants with larger meetings that are the best potential fit for our sponsoring destinations.
To increase the likelihood of your application being accepted:
- first, review the list of Destination Sponsors (see the scrolling logos on the top-right of this page) whom help pay for travel and other program expenses;
- complete all fields and provide as many details as possible to clearly demonstrate that you have one or more specific meeting(s) that could be a potential fit for most of the sponsoring destinations;
- do not use generic names or acronyms—if it isn't obvious, specify the name of the group/organization that is holding the meeting (show owner/client);
- reference events that require a large hotel block and avoid consumer shows or events that draw mostly local participants;
- if you have more than one future event that you are seeking a destination for, be sure to mention the others in the comments section; and
- double-check the accuracy of your information (e.g.: an event that has 4,000 attendees should require more than 4 hotel rooms on peak night).
Here are some common examples of why an application is declined:
- application is incomplete, inconsistent, or does not include information that can be easily verified (such as a Web site for the event or organization);
- meeting requirements are less than the minimum of 100 rooms on peak night;
- “future” meeting has already taken place or is occurring within just a few months of Destinations Showcase (meaning you will most likely have selected a location prior to participating in the Hosted Buyer Program);
- references a future meeting for which a location has already been selected; or
- preferred regions/destinations do not correspond with our available sponsors (e.g.: group is looking to hold a meeting in Texas or the Southwest, but all sponsoring destinations are from other regions of the country).
Of course, these are just a few common examples and the above content is not intended to be comprehensive. DMAI reserves the right to decline applications deemed ineligible for any reason.
Thanks for your interest and good luck!
